University Cup 2016Leeds Beckett University won the Tchoukball UK University Cup for the third time after beating the University of Portsmouth in the final. On route to the final Leeds won seven matches in row against teams from both the University of Portsmouth and Southampton respectively.

Leeds fielded a strong team, and from the offset set out their intention to win the cup back from rivals Southampton by producing high scoring wins against all of their rivals.

As the day progressed, it became clear that Portsmouth's first team and Southampton were fighting for second place in the group to secure a place against Leeds Beckett in the final.

The all-important return fixture was to be the decider, as Portsmouth managed to get into the final in second place by virtue of their winning margin on the head-to-head matches.

During the third place play-off, Portsmouth's second team started the strongest, however, Southampton, who ended up with only four players due to injury, showed grit and determination to come from behind to win comfortably 37-22.

The final, however, was a one sided affair, as Leeds Beckett captain Ruth Brazier needed no motivation in rallying her fellow students leading the team to a convincing 40-28 victory.
