National League Round 5It was a successful day for Bury St Edmunds Tchoukball Club at the fifth round of the Tchoukball UK National League.

It was Headingley Outlaws that benefited most from Bury's performances, as the club's three sides won all of their fixtures.

As a result of wins for both Bury Saints and Bury Wolves against Leeds Cosmos, Headingley leapfrogged Leeds second team into top spot in Division One, having themselves beaten Portsmouth Uni Pythons in a tight match.

Bury's day started off with the club's first team, Bury Kings, defeating Fareham Rhinos 76-40.

Kings then beat Portsmouth Drakes 79-46 and Leeds Galaxy 80-43 to retain their position at the top of the Super League. Wolves, the club's under 18 team, took on Leeds Cosmos, who had started the day at the top of the table.

Leeds needed two wins from their fixtures against both Bury sides to help in their bid for the title. But this was immediately put under threat as the youngsters raced into a lead. Leeds clawed their way back into the match, even leading at one point, but with just five minutes to go Bury scored from a number of turnovers to create a match-winning five point gap, the final score 59-54.

Bury Saints then followed this up with a dominant display, beating Leeds 73-51, after an earlier victory against Portsmouth Uni Pythons.

The results saw Headingley go top of the table, six points above Leeds Cosmos with just two games to play.

Headingley's closest challenge is likely to come from Bury Saints, who with two games in hand sit 10 points behind.

In the Super League, the battle to finish in the top four is on as teams aim to play in the Super Cup on finals day.

Leeds currently sit in third but have played several games more than their main rivals for the positions, Fareham Rhinos and Portsmouth Drakes.

Guildford sit in second but have played two games more than Southampton in fourth.

The final round of fixtures takes place on Sunday, April 24, when Bury Kings and Headingley will look to confirm their places as champions in the respective divisions.
